Teaching Philosophy

I believe any student can succeed with dedication, hard work, and a healthy dose of fun!

I focus on instilling a solid foundation of technique and fluency in fingerings, scales, and other essential fundamentals. Solo repertoire, etudes, and orchestral excerpt study are most effective when layered on top of functional technique.

I believe it is crucial to engage students in the process of directing their education; for example, I'll often ask them to choose a solo piece from several choices instead of dictating repertoire. I foster a sense of curiosity, encouraging students to seek out pieces they would like to learn, and to bring anything that interests them to their lessons. I'm happy to spend time on something a student is excited about!

My students develop high-functioning fundamentals, a love for music, and the ability to go wherever their dreams take them.

Erin is such a pro. A wealth of knowledge, but more importantly, she knows how to RELATE to students - like my daughter!
